Les grèves (strikes) were in full swing in France today. It happens enough in this country that a website has been created to keep you informed on current or upcoming strikes: http://www.greves.org/pages/home.php
The big strike today was with transportation and "civil" workers. This includes teachers. For students, that means they might not have any classes or just a couple. It depends on which teachers decide to strike. This morning when I went to school, there was a sign up on the gate with a list of teachers absent (on strike) and those present. The two teachers I normally work with were on strike, so I worked with a different English teacher today. It was a nice change and I got to work with new students. We talked a little about the strike, but it's really not strange to them; it's part of their culture. Plus, they get a bit of a quasi vacation out of it...
Here is a link from BBC news that shows some live footage of the strikes in France today:

I must say as a professional (which teachers are!) I am completely disapproving of strikes. Surely we are intelligent enough to handle things in a way that is not detrimental to others... but I'm glad you enjoyed your day with another teacher! That's fun. I'd love to come over and see you teach someday.
love you!
