An unexpected marriage proposal....

Last Thursday I was finishing up my very long day of teaching at one of the French middle schools where I work. It was the last hour (ending at 5:45PM) and I was with a small group of 8th graders (9 students). This group can often be rowdy, but I really like them. They followed the lesson and participated well in conversation; I was impressed! I decided to let them play hangman (in English, of course!) for the last 10-15 minutes of class. The last few minutes were spent putting the chairs on the desks and some of the kids writing on the white board, including "I love Amy". In the midst of all of this I was talking to a few students and told them that I also teach at another school. One of the boys acted like he was hurt, saying no, you can only teach at our school! I thought it was sweet. This same student then decided he was going to profess his "love" to me. He said he loved me and then he borrowed a ring from one of the girls and proposed to me. I was laughing and just said, ok, ok, that's enough. Some of the girls then started saying my name with his last name...strange, but still funny!

As I was leaving the school that evening, I saw some of the girls from class and they called out my name. I went to talk to them and one of the girls said, "you are now Amy ____", saying the boy's last name. I laughed, but said, no, no, don't say that!

I can only imagine the giggles I'll hear this week...

:) Amy, you a *catch!*

It tickles me that students in France get caught up in love and marriage and acting out just like kids in the States.

Or maybe your students just know a good woman when they see one...

I know it is quite funny. I think part of it is the novelty of saying "I love you" in English...

At least now you can tell creepy French guys that you're engaged and not be lying. Not really, anyway.

Hahaha Ahhh the joys of combining a beautiful teacher with raging hormones of 8th grade boys! :)
Love it! Love you (for real, but I'm not going to propose...)!

Glad to hear you are continuing to dazzle over there!! I'd propose if I was an 8th grade boy, too... :) I think I even heard one or two of those (I was much closer to your age!)
love you!
