I have the wonderful privilege of assisting with a play ("A Midsummer Night's Dream") at one of the international schools in Paris. The play consists of students from 5th to 8th grade. How fun it has been to see the kids learn their lines and gain confidence in acting. The set is getting close to being finished; it looks great. The actual performance will be in just a few weeks!
Today I invited a friend, Adrienne, to go with me to practice. I got to show her my "skills" in the sound and light booth (although really it's the kids who will run it...) and show off our many talented young actors and actresses. After practice, there is a "late bus" that takes students home that are involved in after school activities. Adrienne and I were able to catch a lift on the late bus. It was a funny sight as Adrienne and I worked our way back on this charter bus filled with young kids. I got to sit next to a 2nd grade boy who told me he is from Virginia (U.S.) and moved here in September. He will be in France for 2 years. Adrienne sat right in front of me next to an Asian boy who seemed very bothered that he had to move his backpack off the seat for her to sit down. All the while, a student was playing some tunes on the recorder, including "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Very funny, indeed. To make the trip more enjoyable, one of the men who work on the bus walked around with a bag of candy. I was offered some too. So, I sat next to my new 2nd grade friend on the bus eating candy. It was a good day:-)
